Furnace and boiler service
A furnace that's been checked in September rarely fails in January. We check, repair and replace propane furnaces and boilers, in the house and in the shop.
Signs you need it
The burner flame is yellow or lazy, not blue
The furnace short-cycles or won't start
A rotten-egg smell near the unit
The carbon monoxide alarm has gone off
The house is cold in the far rooms
The unit is old and has never been looked at

The visit
What happens at the visit
- 01
We look at the burner
Flame, ignition and the heat exchanger, as far as it can be seen.
- 02
We check the flue and the air
The vent clear, the air supply open and the filter changed or logged.
- 03
We test the safeties
The limit switch, the carbon monoxide alarm and the shut-off.
- 04
We write it down
Anything that needs work is a line on a written quote. Nothing is fixed without your yes.
Cost
What drives the cost
We don't post one price, because no two places need the same work. These decide it, and each is a line on the written quote.
The unit's age and make
Parts for an old furnace can be slow to find, and we say so before we quote.
Fuel and input size
A propane furnace is set for propane. A shop heater or a boiler is sized to the space.
Venting
A new furnace may need a different vent, or the chimney lined.
Access
A cramped crawlspace or a cabin down a long drive is more time.
Repair or replace
We give both numbers and say which we'd choose. We tell you when not to replace.
Questions
Questions about furnaces
I smell gas, or my carbon monoxide alarm is sounding. What do I do?
Get everyone out, leave the door open behind you and call 911 from outside. Don't switch anything on or off and don't use a phone inside. Call us after the fire department says it's safe, and we'll check the system before it's lit again.
Should I repair or replace an old furnace?
It depends on the age, the part and the bill. We give you the repair price and the replacement price in writing and say which we'd pick. If a repair is the better buy, we say that.
Can you fill the tank and check the furnace in one visit?
Yes. The fill and the service are one stop: the truck brings a technician's tools, so the gauge, the regulator, the lines and the furnace are all looked at before we leave.
Book it, or just ask
Tell us the place, the tank and what you see. We'll call you back in office hours.
